While I don’t have enough space, cash, or desire to throw a giant Halloween bash, I love celebrating seasons and holidays, and Halloween is no exception.  I have a few decorations out, some spooky treats in the kitchen, and some of the latest Halloween goodies from Erin Condren in my office.  Only EC could make Halloween fun and functional.

For those of you that don’t know, my all time favorite musical is Wicked. Wicked centers around Elphaba (more commonly known as the Wicked Witch of the West) and Glinda from the Wizard of Oz starting beforethe events that we know from the movie.  It’s brilliantly written, the music is incredible, and I’ve been hooked for years. To say I’m obsessed is putting it lightly. When I lived at my parent’s house, I color matched my bedroom to the musical’s poster.  My college senior recital was titled “Defying Gravity,” and I even got a lime green Ford Fiesta before it was cool (ok..it might not ever be cool, but there are definitely a lot more of them around now) because it was the perfect shade of “Elphaba green.”  See? Obsessed!

Wicked-Planners-

When I saw one of the Halloween releases from Erin Condren had Wicked written on it, I knew I had to have the collection, so I picked up a few (okay..all) of the “Wicked Fun” items EC offered to give my office a little bit of a Halloween flair.

My LifePlanner™s both got makeovers to stay current with the holiday, and while my blog planner is sporting last year’s October cover, my new monthly planner is sporting the new “Wicked Fun” cover in my favorite wicked colors: Elphaba green (aka to the rest of the world as lime green) and good old black.

journal

I have been obsessed with the bound journals that EC released this year, so when I saw “Wicked fun” was offered as a journal cover as well, it went into the cart in the same custom colors as my ECLP cover.  This journal proudly bears a quote from my favorite song in the musical, “Defying Gravity.”  Not only does the journal make me smile, but it’s great for writing down my ideas for various Halloween festivities.

While my planners and notebooks rarely leave the office, the EC Halloween offerings can be used in other parts of the holiday too.

Cupcakes

For some baked goods to serve at a party (or just to myself and the Mister), I had my sister (who is the baker at Deanna’s Delights) make and frost some yummy, festive cupcakes for my acrylic tray. While many people don’t necessarily think of purple as a Halloween color, I find it goes perfectly with my  wicked acrylic tray insert from EC. I customized the colors so they felt a little more “Wicked the musical” and less wicked witch with the giant wart on her nose, and the purple and orange treats matched perfectly.

Holiday Tip: Add a few drops of food dye to your frosting or cake batter for an extra festive feel.  You can give something as simple as boxed cake and canned frosting that extra special flare.

Easy Summer Entertaining With Erin

Those who know me will tell you: any excuse to throw a party, you can count me in! So when I saw our posh palms design printed on wine totes, trays, and placemat pads, it got me SO excited to plan an elegant summer soirée!

Whether you’re the one greeting guests at the door, or you’re on the hunt for the perfect hostess gift, no evening is complete without a sip of something refreshing while the sun sets! For a themed event, try customizing the bottles with gift labels – I love this look for engagements or anniversaries when you may want to keep the bottle as a keepsake. Or if you’d rather leave the label clean, a wine tote in palms print is the perfect way to present your favorite beverage to the host.

Feed your fancy side by whipping up a charcuterie plate! It’s not actually as fancy as it sounds- just an array of cured meats, cheeses, and dried fruit, but when served on a palms acrylic tray is charcuterie-chic! I love the green and white palette in an outdoor setting, but you could also customize the colors in bright fuchsia or orange for a tropical-themed fiesta!

In keeping with the sophisticated style of the theme, fern fronds are a super simple way to decorate your table scape. Place settings in palms are just too posh, especially with matching placemat pads. String lights overhead add a finishing, romantic touch that will lead your guests to linger long into the night!

This gorgeous, garden get-together would not be complete without green tea macarons. Served in a palms acrylic box, they are a charming treat on top of an exquisite evening!

Cactus Themed Boho Bridal Shower

With wedding season in full swing, it seems that every weekend there’s another happy couple to celebrate. In my experience, the girl-time shared before a wedding can sometimes be even more fun than the big day- especially when the bridal shower or bachelorette party has a cute & clever theme!

This adorable bridal bash was hosted by the cousin of the bride. Using our new cactus design as inspiration, Lily put together a party fit for the ultimate boho bride (named Kale) and I think it’s safe to say this soirée was a huge success!

When guests entered, they were instructed to get creative with the guestbook (a TakeNote notebook with dot grid pages let the feelings flow!) Combined with a spread of our designer stickers and sticker sheets, party pops markers, and a polaroid zip printer, it made it easy for friends and family to leave special messages & photos for the bride. It truly created a one-of-a-kind memory book the bride will hold onto long after she tosses her bouquet!

Another darling detail were the cactus cookies and other sweet treats passed around on acrylic trays! These make for an awesome gift for weddings and showers alike. The interchangeable inserts ensure that the bride and groom will be able to serve up snacks through any season or occasion.

The prettiest placemats kept the theme going and made for some seriously stylish table settings! Bright floral arrangements in various vases matched the cactus design perfectly, and an acrylic photo block featured a snapshot of the soon-to-be newlyweds!

Last but not least, sweet succulents made for excellent favors for the guests to take home! “Let love grow” cactus gift labels added a personal, pretty touch to the planters.

Blogger Takeover: Wildflowers & Marbles

Well hello from down south! My name is Jennifer Mackintosh. I’m a busy mom of 5 kids, a blogger, homeschooler to my 5 kids (yep! from preschool to high school!), a speaker, laundry aficionado, a wine and coffee devotee, and a planner addict- thus…a huge Erin Condren fan!

Nine years ago I decided to start blogging! At the time, blogging was this new, exciting format that everyone was eager to try. I started writing about homeschooling, how my faith informed my days, planning, and organizing – just the core values of my life. I really wanted to show the beauty within our ordinary day – and how pretty the practical can be!

 MarblesWildflowers 2

When I started blogging, I only had two kiddos…and in trying to come up with a catchy blog name I began to think about my day. That morning my daughter brought me a fistful of wildflowers, and I had (once again) washed a pocketful of marbles in my son’s laundry. Wildflowers & Marbles. Practical and pretty.

In the years since I started blogging I’ve had three more children, expanded my blog, started speaking at homeschool conferences and remodeled my home. Blogging became a way that I could connect with other moms and share about all the ordinary, practical things in my life – like planning, organizing, making home and homeschooling – and how those things can be both beautiful and necessary to contain the chaos! I love how days, when they are considered, allow for margin – that unplanned space around the edges of the day. Planning allows me to react less, and live more.

I found Erin Condren a few years ago – almost by accident! I was searching for a better planner and came across a review of an Erin Condren LifePlanner™. I bought my first LifePlanner™ and fell in love – it met all the practical needs of my day, was flexible enough to roll with our craziness, and did it all in such a pretty way! Since then, I’ve developed a real love for Erin Condren products because they perfectly combine my very real practical daily needs without ever forgetting that practical can be pretty. It’s an extraordinary marriage and you’ll find Erin Condren all over my desk, home and homeschool – and I still live out of my LifePlanner™!

I use notebooks as a planning tool for myself and as my commonplace book for collecting quotes from favorite books, and I use the Teacher Planner to keep up with all of my homeschool record keeping and the plans & booklists for our Morning Basket time (we spend about an hour every day reading aloud together – all the ages/grades – it’s a great common time for beginning the day!).

I use the file folders to help corral all the paper stuff in record keeping, and in the last year I have fallen in love with the Erin Condren acrylic (plus they’re having a big sale on the whole category!)

Those acrylic clipboards are fabulous (and the colors just POP!). Each of my kids has a clipboard to hold that child’s weekly lesson plans, and since they’re all customizable, every child gets a favorite color with a favorite quote – no more lost lesson plans because they easily stand out! I mean, who doesn’t color code their kids? I love using my own set of clipboards above my desk to contain my goals and project lists – make your walls work for you!

I use the acrylic boxes for just about everything – to contain pens, desk supplies, craft supplies, and my favorite use: my recipe box

The acrylic trays help me contain small collections and I love the interchangeable inserts – I use one acrylic tray to hold my personal reading and homeschool stack, and I love using one in my laundry room for holding odds and ends on the dryer (the little rubber feet on the tray keep it in place perfectly)!

Start Mother’s Day off on a *sweet* note (hint hint)

Oh y’all! How is it already APRIL!? Today we’re talking about kicking off your Mother’s Day morning, and while it may seem like it’s weeks away, time is truly flying and it’s always better to start planning ahead of time!

Our suggestion? Start your Mother’s Day celebration off on a sweet note with a classic breakfast in bed! We’ve amped up this time-honored tradition with a few new & notable EC touches.C1709 ECD-161

We chose to serve up style in addition to breakfast with a stunning, new(coming soon!!!) acrylic tray insert featuring the May “In Bloom” design. The best part about the acrylic tray is that you can transform it by switching out the tray insert: perhaps into a forever photo with a family portrait displayed on the coffee table or a personalized family name for the kitchen!

We also created a gorgeous (and free!) downloadable mother’s day card so you can guarantee you have something beautiful to give your mom (the heartfelt note on the inside is up to you!)

I’ll be outlining some of my favorite Mother’s Day gifts in a later blog post, but make sure to keep your eyes peeled for exciting announcements in the next few days! (Hint: it may involve a sale featuring this very acrylic tray!)

Stay tuned…:)
