Extreme Bathroom Makeover!!!

ready, set, GO! this remodel is going much quicker that I planned, so i am making quick decisions over the phone as my husband and handyman run back and forth from Home Depot! I told him dark wood floors, and VOILA! These are made of bamboo (very green!) and pre-stained so they were set in a jiffy. The dry wall is all in, can lighting in the ceiling, now just waiting for the wallpaper.

LOVE MY SINK! I loved the desk my friend had made for her daughter, so I sketched out something similar for the sink cabinet. You might know I love circles, so I drew the legs to be “stacked balls” and bought a sink top & faucet from IKEA. I can’t believe how quickly it came together! I plan to paint it Green this weekend and have the wallpaper ready
to hang next week. (see the sneak peek of pattern on the wall) exciting!!!

Bathroom Remodel…Finally!

It’s embarrassing to admit, but we have a bathroom in our home that has been “closed” for more than 5 years! Crazy work schedules, lack of funds, and priorities elsewhere, this poor bathroom has been put on a backburner for way too long. When we moved in, we found some mold issues, so we gutted the space and printed a “sorry sister” sign on the front door. My best friend is getting married and we are holding the reception in my home over Memorial Day weekend, so it’s time to get the place ready!

I designed a wood sink cabinet and am printing my own wallpaper, can’t wait to show you when it’s all finished!

Here’s a sketch of my dream sink I’m making!

Feliz Cinco De Mayo!

i love everything about Cinco De Mayo! the bright colors and festive feel of the bold & colorful hispanic culture!
oh yes, and of course, the MARGARITAS!!!

Tonight we will be celebrating at a neighbor’s house and I’m in charge of Chips & Salsa (love the fresh made chips from Whole Foods!)
and Churros for desert. (a fave with the kiddos)

Last year we hosted a dinner party for friends in our home.
I hung pinatas & paper lanterns from the ceiling, used bright and varied colors of Gerber daisies in many vases
on the table, and served cupcakes on a fabulous and fun cupcake display made of colorful corrugated paper.

Have fun tonight, too bad it’s a school night or we’d be dancing with Mariachis all night!

Arriba! Arriba!

Gotta have that bag!!!

My brother’s wife, Carol Reach, is a FABULOUS photographer and also the greatest sister-in-law of all time.
I wanted to get her something extra special for her birthday (TODAY!), and was THRILLED to hear of the super-stylish
camera bag collection by Kelly Moore. This is such a personal purchase, and I really want her to love the color, but
I would also love to surprise her. I’m dying over this turquoise number and hopeful my husband is reading my blog
before Mother’s Day. Knowing there in no chance of that, I might just add 2 to my cart.

Making California Beautiful

This weekend my city is partaking in what will be the largest public artwork in the country. The Brothers Massey is painting every lifeguard tower from Zuma all the way down to Palos Verdes in bright fun panels of color and paint. There will we over 6000 children, including ones in hospitals and over 2000 adults.

*

Sunday they will be at the pier in my neighborhood and my family and I cannot wait to be part of such an amazing venture! This really will be the “Summer of Color!”

Songbird on my street

It has been such a thrill watching my dear friend’s daughter blossom into the incredibly talented songbird that she is!
Katie Costello has been writing and composing her own music since she was a child, and came out with her first CD when she was only 16. We have had the pleasure of listening to her “up close” as she lives just a few doors down.

She moved to NY recently to pursue her career (at age 18!) and we can’t wait to see what the future brings for our Hermosa Beach Songbird!
Check out her new video that Perez Hilton blogged about. Isn’t she just the cutest??This is music for ALL AGES, I strongly suggest you buy her CD, Kaleidoscope Machine. (on Itunes for $9.99)

She BLOWS AWAY any American Idol!!!

No More Tears

I’ve decided in my next “phase” of life, I will get back into cooking. My husband and I used to really enjoy our time together in the kitchen, but 2 kids, homework, sports, and both careers leave little time for more than Trader Joes in a bag! My daughter loves to help out and we often chop up things to add to the “bag”, but no one likes to chop the onion…until now.

Actually, kate said one day: “mom, we should where goggles to chop onions!” I thought it was such a brilliant thought, but obviously someoneelse beat us to the punch. This pink pair of “onion goggles” from Sur la Table are fun to wear and help to block out the “reflex tears.”
